So, what’s the story?
While attending a party at the home of arms dealer David Crenshaw, Bruce Wayne meets renowned diplomat Jacob Brenner. Later, a shot is heard from upstairs. While the crowd runs through the mansion to investigate, Bruce take a short cut by making a ten foot vertical leap to the second story from outside. He finds Brenner dead from a gunshot wound. The crowd bursts in, and Bruce is taken into custody. He’s assumed to be the murder, as there was no other way into the room, and he can’t explain how a pampered playboy jumped up to the room from outside. While Bruce fights off thugs in jail, Dick Grayson goes back to the mansion to talk with Crenshaw and investigate the room. Dick discovered a secret entrance behind the grandfather clock (sound familiar?), but is then taken hostage by Crenshaw, who is revealed to be the killer. Meanwhile in prison, Bruce comes to the same conclusion, and returns to the mansion as Batman to confront Crenshaw and save Dick. He returns to prison as Bruce, and is released due to Crenshaw’s confession.
This is the first animated-style comic to not feature a major villain, and I enjoyed it. It gave some nice insight into the challenges of maintaining a secret identity. The story was well paced, if a bit short and simplistic. It’s probably too brief as written to have been an episode, but the quality was still comparable.
How’s the Art?
Fair enough. We’re still not far enough in the timeline for non-model characters to appear in the proper style, but we’re getting there.
Any continuity issues?
This would most likely fit in anywhere pre-TNBA.
Anything of interest to customizers or cosplayers?
No.
Is this issue worth my precious time?
Yes.
